Title: The Brook, Chatham.
Post by: numanfan on October 10, 2010, 22:49:37
Shops by Slicketts Hill in the late 1960's.

I remember the shop on the extreme right, on the corner of the hill, was still there in the mid 1980's as a stamp shop. I think one of the other shops was a tattooist's then.

That's amazing - I mentioned Brook Motorcycles in a post a couple of weeks ago. Interesting to see the Puch logo on the wall just below the window, my Dad had one of these. It was rare then and would probably be worth quite a lot to a classic motorbike enthusiast by now. I remember the stamp shop on the corner, I think it was the last building to be demolished in this part of the Brook. What on earth is that place called the "Ritz?"

"Ritz Car Valetting" apparently. Not quite sure where you actually park your car.

Numanfan I take my hat off to you, you know everything, you probably also know that the tiled building to the left of Brooke Motor Cycles was an insurance brokers and I insured my Ford 8 there for eight pounds a year. Do you also remember the bookmakers around the corner in Slickets Hill? My second cousin owned that after he came home from the war in '45 or there abouts
