Title: Luton Millennium Green
Post by: isleansuz on November 09, 2014, 22:09:20
So, seeing as this place is right on my door step and I've still not been (too much work, not enough play), could anyone shed some light on this place?

I'm assuming it was renamed like numerous other sites around Kent at the turn of the millennium.

A Wiki Page for it doesn`t paint it in overly good light ( http://millenniumgreen.wikia.com/wiki/Luton ), but I`m curious about the amphitheater structure :)

So what can folks say about this place?

So far as I a concerned the first thing to say is - where is it? :) Luton is in Chatham!

Well...if anybody was looking for this green in Rochester, they would come unstuck  :)  That was the first thing that I noticed in the link.  I do remember when they had an official opening, but have never been there (even when my son lived in Albany Road years ago). It's a shame that it isn't being looked after now though.

Since I started writing this, Petechall has also posted that it's in Chatham, not just me noticed that then  :)

Luton, in my young days, was known as ` Cabbage Island ` ----- because of all the allotments there.

I read in an old book at the archives that Cabbage Island got it's name because the Navy had all their cabbages grown there for their sailing ships to combat scurvy..

Luton Millennium covers a fairly big area of greenery, ideal for children to roam free plus a lovely picnic area. Problem is parking if you don't live in the area.
