Re;   CDP's post.

Holy Trinity Church, Sheerness.

Rev.  G. Bryant, 1844-1884,
Rev.  S.A. Selwyn, 1884-1886.

I took this photo of the list of Vicars at this church.

Rev. Bryant and Rev. Selwyn are the first two on the top left in the photos.

A note for the Heathens;-
(We always ware/are  wery religus on Sheppey!!!!!!)
Just look at the number of children at each Sunday School ,
e.g. 700 at Bethel  Sunday School 1863 Mar.14th 1824
and  600 at the Bethel Sunday School 17 Sept 12th
etc., etc., etc..

I fear the high attendance at Sunday School might not have had anything to do with beliefs.
My mother was raised in Westminster and always said all the children were packed off for an hour or two on Sundays as it was the only way the parents got any time alone with a bit of privacy.......   (Think about it)
It must have worked as there were a dozen of them living in that three bedroom house!

In the interests of preserving the environment no trees were harmed in the transmission of this mess

When I was younger,I lived with my Gran and she made me and my sister go to Sunday school  (and then  church )to enable her to get some " peace and quiet " during the day !!!

I'm convinced it was more a case of habit and something to do than religion, would all those children have been there if they'd had modern day attractions such as TV and Playstations, etc.
