News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

Stroof Urban District Council Steam Roller
« Reply #1 on: March 24, 2011, 21:42:32 »
I thought that those interested in Strood may be interested to see this photograph.  It is of an Aveling & Porter named roller,  "Queen" and owned by Strood Urban District Council.  Its a typical scence, a runaway, not uncommon.

For the techies, its a piston valve engine. No. 10658 (effectively the serial number, most steam engines go by serial number, not registration number); from circa 1923.

I have taken this from the 1966 edition of Steaming Magzine!
