The pontoon which used to be at Gillingham Pier was moved here. Don't know how long it was there for or what happened to it after that, I did hear a tale about it breaking loose and drifting down the river.

Paul - Thanks for your response. Yes there is a crane there but I'm not sure that's it's one that was in that place when the yard was operational. From my 1955 map of the dockyard it shows two gantry cranes along the wharf but not a dockside crane. When you see the crane up close it has been mounted on a brick platform as an exhibit.

They are dolphins to which large ship mooring pontoons used to be attached. The RNR vessels used to moor to them before the dockyard closed.
