News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

Just been looking at the site on Google earth but can`t find the entrance anymore. Was it covered or filled in when the surface building were converted to a care home?

'Cambridge Indicator' was not a company, it is some form of data analysis method, while the manufacturer's name is blurred on actual scale.

According to the local paper, the bunker is being rebuilt as training rooms for the staff of the new Care Home.

It looks like some sort of air conditioning control unit.

The link on the last page (thanks shadow!!  :)) was during my visit a few years ago, big thanks to my Dad for getting me permission to have a snoop around.

I have some more of the bunker and the inside the main building if you want to have a look. Sorry for the quality, these were taken on my phone camera

I made a crude map from memory, pretty much sums up the layout

Anyone have any idea what this is? We found it in the loft area

The bunker is at the rear of the building in the car park, is this where the rubble is?

You should ask the foreman if a couple of people in safety gear can have a nose in the bunker...

Apparently they are going to retain the bunker, but uncover it and repalce the roof with a glass panel and use the space as a residents lounge!

I can't see this happening, its such a vast building that it doesn't make sense to spend all that money adapting the bunker. The main access is away from the actual building its self so doesnt make sense for the (possibly frail?) residents to go outside then negotiate a load of stairs just to get to their lounge area.

See page 9 of todays Medway Messenger for an update on the Municipal Buildings. Apparently they are going to retain the bunker, but uncover it and repalce the roof with a glass panel and use the space as a residents lounge!

was in the municiapl buildings the other day, yeah its going to be care home / residential home, lots of work going on inside the building, walls gone, stairs gone etc etc, the bunker has not been touched either to is unspoiled by the building work and is left secure

For those that are interested in the potential future use of the Municipal Buildings and the bunker, here's the planning and conservation area consent applications:

Yeah
As I understand it`s the main building (which I knew as " The Municipal Buildings " that`s  gonna be an old folks home...
Nice location and a good way to use the place...
The Bunker`s in the car park round the back...
Wedge shaped entry ...Never got down there as it was always locked up when I was a kid....
There is evidence on the net that people have had access and it looks pretty unspoilt
A good one to document before its lost...

WW
If it's too hard I can't do it !

Just the Gillingham Borough Control bunker at the back of the old Municipal buildings is underground

The Municipal buildings is what they'll turn into the old folks home.
