News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

From Kelly's County Directory 1938:
Whitaker, L.D. perambulator dlr. 43 Canterbury St.

The closest I have either side of that are the local Kellys for 1959, when it had become Watts Bross, outfitters, with Elliott Bros, cycle dlrs next door at 45; and the 1934 County directory which lists Fletcher, W. & R. Limited, butchers 43d Canterbury Street and Reed, Arth. Edwd., picture frame mkr, 43 Canterbury Street.

I guess that narrows it down a little.

It  wasn't Madam Milners, that was a larger shop, this was a smaller shop, I remember it having cardigans in the window,

The shop I think you mean, Janetlina56, was Milner's, now a supermarket.

Before the motorbike shop was extented across 3 properties there was a ladies wear shop next to the solicitors, but I think that might of been number 41.

I took these photos today, soon afterwards it was removed.   Anyone heard of this shop? I guess the shop was there perhaps before WW2. It's where the motor byke shop was.
