It was a home for unmarried mothers.

Have discovered an ancestor (Ada Lee) who was an 'inmate' at St Mildred's in 1901. Ada had an illegitimate daughter in 1896. Can anyone tell me what St Mildred's Home actually was?
Many thanks,
Mike
