News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

Remember it well, as a kid in the '50s, trying to ride through on bikes without falling in, don't remember the pathway though and certainly shallower then - about 6-8" at most

A ford found in Ditton, it is running at around a foot deep and a permanent closure on the road due to many people sueing for damages and the cost being too high to reduce the stream level.
