I see that Gill's Emmanuel-Thomas has read & inwardly digested  the " Fat Lady" poster; good for him.

Neither am I, now; afraid soccer has become so money orientated. Late 40's I was a Gills fan when they were in the Kent & Southern Leagues - probably on <10 a week & another job. Maybe silly to you but I've always looked out for their scores & progress - or otherwise - ever since. Thanks for the photo, that would have been Southern L. (Do you like their Long shorts - 1" below the knee minimum?).

I'm not a footie fan, but thought this image of the Gills v Newport from the early 50's may show a bit of lift in the team?

I see Gills have - again!!- taken down, or ignored, the poster " It's not over until the fat lady sings"! Two weeks running.

A 1954-55 Official Fixtures card that I came across by chance during a "clear out" yesterday.  If anyone would like a clearer image, send me a message and I will email a larger file to you.  Also have approx 20 programmes from the 70's & 80's, including "Ron Hillyard" Testimonial.

I used to go with my dad early 50s and like most of the kids hid under their fathers overcoat going through the turnstiles.

Thank you CAT, this brings back fond memories of standing in the Rainahm End terrace under that corrugated 'barrel' roof in the 70's and 80's. We always gathered by an upright to the left of the goal, possibly the one just out of shot on the right of this picture. The old Redfearn Avenue stand looks very shiny too!

They must have been doing something right as this pic of their newly built and resurfaced grounds from the early 1950's shows? I'm not a footie fan myself.

know what you mean Dave, I watched the game on tv. I dont go to any games and if this is top of the league football what must the bottom of the league be like, all they seem to do is kick the ball in the air and hope.

Smiler. Commiserations - again! Will the Gills ever learn NOT to take down the "fat lady" notice?

Watching a game at Priestfields Road was I believe instrumental in giving me a life long complete disinterest in football.  :) I went with a school mate (about 1957) and his Dad and can remember it being a grey awful day with constant drizzle, ground was like a mud bowl with players slip sliding everywhere. Can't remember the score or anything else about it but there must have been at least 50 "fans" there.....
But they were bottom or thereabouts of the then 4th division, a position they well deserved.
My first, last, only game.
Thankyou Gills.  :)
