News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

I'm wondering about those circles visible in the photo. At first sight they look like filled-in gun positions for WWII Blacker Bombards?

This still exists, largely like JohnG's 1981 photo according to Google maps. These days it is surrounded by a housing estate at Lydd on Sea - a very square-looking estate when viewed from above. It is about 2 miles north of the power station.

Hi JohnG, that is an interesting plan.

Do you know if the Trinity House research station was built over this?
