Had my daughters wedding reception here, very nice place; guests also had the use of the swimming pool and Jacuzzi downstairs.

The late forties, Mr Gafney was caretaker and lived in the house next to the school.

I just hadn't remembered the Art College using the school at all, the caretaker I knew was a Mr Coomber who lived in Borstal.

Lyn L,  my mother went to the Art College in the 70s in the building near Eastgate House just off the Rochester High Street which now is the library and in the 40s she went to St.  Peters School on the New road.

My father went there late 20s early 30s. Got an idea my partneress went there sometime during the 50s, must ask when she comes in later.

Just come across this posting a year late.  This was the best school I ever went to from Sept 1954 to July 1958.  If schools were like this now everyone would come away with a decent education.  Is there anyone on this forum who was there during those dates?

It was used by the Rochester College of Art, certainly from the late 60's and probably until the new college was opened. At the time it was known as St Peter's annexe.

Thanks Grandarog. So it is one of these exclusive invite only clubs. That has cleared that up.

S4, I posted a picture of the mythical bird on the Roffen Club sign on the test forum "Guess the Place". The Roffen Club is a Sports Centre and Social Venue. It is more or less next door to St Barts Hospital, New Road, Chatham, Star Hill direction.

Its not a Roffen Club, but the Roffen Club. It's a private members club on New Road in Rochester.

The building was St Peter's School. Shows in the directories in 1937 & 1955 but had disappeared by 1963.

St Peter's School is then listed as being in King Street, Rochester, next to Troy Town School.
My wife recalls going there in 1963, she thinks only about three classes went, it operated down in the basement of the building.

The Roffen club was a school before it became the club, I remember my mother saying she had gone there for a short while.

Yes, I think that you are correct about the Art College being in Rochester (High Street). I was there in the late 1950s when Zandra Rhodes was a student there. I think the building opposite the Roffen Club must have been built in the early 1960s.

I`ve just tried out the spell checker and it doesn`t like 1950s. 1950`s is not right so I suppose nineteen fifties is correct!
