Rochester.-Population, 18,352; mortality, 25∙06, inclusive of deaths at the hospital; exclusive, 19∙72.  Sewage question at present under the consideration of the Corporation.

The topographicall description of ye parte of ye River of Medway in ye County of Kent, that lyeth beweene Rochester bridge & the lower mouth of St Marie Creek, whein are exactly noted, the ships of his Majesty’s Navye as they lye att roade on ye saide River with their severall names, birth’s & depths of water in those berthes att a lowe water.  The olde & new Dockes with their particular buildinges, storehouses, & offices.  The lande & howsing helde in lease by his Majesty from ye Manor of Chatham, St Mary Creke.  His Majesty’s castle of Upnor & the lande to it belonging, with the two sconces called Boys Sconce &  Warham Sconce, as they were observed by the painbulacon & view of the officers of his Majesty’s Navye by & with ye assistance of Charles Harbord Esq, his Majesty’s Surveyor generall by vertue of an order & direction in ye behalfe given by the right honourable, the Lordes & others Commissioners of the Admiraltie of England, bearing date att Whitehall, xxv – 1633.
