Civil Defence Corps - Kent County Division.

Appointment of Civil Defence Officer for the Sheppey Sub-Division.

Applications are invited for the whole-time appointment of Civil Defence Officer for the Sheppey Sub-Division of the Kent County Division of the Civil Defence Corps, comprising the Boroughs of Queenborough, the Urban District of Sheerness and the Rural District of Sheppey. The salary for the post will be in accordance with Grade V of the A.P.T. Division of the National Scales of Salaries (£570 to £620 per annum), together with travelling and subsistence allowences in accordance with the National Joint Council Scales in force from time to time. The successfull candidate will be appointed to the staff of the Sheerness Urban District Council, being the parent authority for the Sub-Division. He will be required to reside in the Sub-Division and provide himself with a car. The appointment is subject to the provisions of the Local Government Superannuation Act 1947, and the candidate selected will be required to pass a medical examination to the satisfaction of the Kent County Council.
Applicants should have had considerable administrative experience and possess good organizing ability. The person appointed will be responsible to the clerks of each of the Constituent Authorities for Civil Defence planning and organization ; recruitment and training ; the receipt, storage, maintenance and issue of equipment ; the keeping of records ; the co-ordination of Civil Defence measures throughout the Sub-Divisional area, and such other duties in relation to Civil Defence as may from time to time be assigned to him.
Unless already a qualified Civil Defence (General) Instructor, the appointment will be conditional upon the selected candidate attending as soon as possible a course at a Home Office Civil Defence Training School and obtaining the award of an Instructor's Certificate as a result of attending such course.
Applications stating age, experience, qualifications and Service obligations, if any, accompanied by the names of two referees should reach the undersigned not later than Monday 8th October, 1951.
