Thankyou for that Lutonman, having known these plaques on the lych gate in both its former positions (outside the 'old' church and latterly in the garden). I had wondered what became of them. I used to 'amuse' myself whilst waiting for my daughters church youth club to finish by memorising some of the names and feeding them into the Commonwealth War Grave website to get some backgrounds to those listed.
I knew they were deteriorating before they were removed, and the pictures show this quite clearly.

The latest news about the memorials is that the church is trying to get permission to place them on a wall inside the church. They are also seeking advice as to how to clean them up. They are in a poor state.

I attended the church today and took the opportunity to seek confirmation of the location of the two large plaques which formed part of the Lych Gate memorial at Luton. I am pleased to confirm that they are still kept inside the church for safe keeping.

I still have some photographs of them but of poor quality due to the defacing that had taken place. I know Stewie was interested to know where they had gone, I could at the time only confirm where they were two years ago, but now this information is up to date.
