Is the small pipe yellow, if so that points to a gas pipe.

Thank you MedKev86 for taking them pics that is spot on. Now you can see what I mean! Lived in Chatham for the 30 years and I too played around there as a kid, just never noticed before. If it was the water board they normally mark it with a sign? The mystery continues!

Nice pictures, MedKev86  :)

It almost looks like the building was built in 2 stages, the brickwork for the section with the water pipe seems a little less well done than that lower down. Has someone built a water tank on top of something else?

Secondly, why does it not line up with the fence? Was the piece of land split after this structure was built, or did it serve the needs of the land on either side of the fence?

Hi
In the 16 years I lived in Gordon Road Chatham, me and my mate played around the steps. We just thought it was just a bit of old pipe, but then we were just kids.

Is it possible that the larger pipe is there to relieve the build up of water pressure behind what is a large wall. The metal plate is likely to be covering a valve or meter, but the water board are usually very good at showing that it is theirs.

I have been trying to upload the pictures of this but the forum won`t let me sadly.

... I have had to attach them in two's - sorry Mods - please tidy up :)

Could your problem with posting pictures have been caused by the word `upload` in blue and underlined. Have a look at it and click it. I think we are being invaded from cyberspace!

I'll wait for the pictures to make any firm comment, but I can`t see why a water pipe would need an overflow, but perhaps a sewer pipe would?

Do you mean the bit that's got 3 sides fenced off at the top next to the bin?
Googlemaps shows either side but not "in" to that bit sadly.. it's a 2 min walk for me I'll drop by tomorrow at some point and grab a picture or 2 if that's where you mean.

I think not? I was sitting at the bottom finishing a smoke, and for the first time noticed the pipe work and the big sort of funnel? stick out the top and was puzzled, never noticed it before? Hence at the top big metal cover in the ground?

Is it made using the same type of brick as the buildings below it?

Off Magpie Hall Road, where the steps go down to Henry Street, what is that brick structure for? At the bottom of the steps the structure has a big overflow pipe at the top and at the bottom looks like a water main pipe? The top in the middle looks like a steel cover?
