News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

Chatham Reach?
« Reply #1 on: October 25, 2013, 20:28:27 »
I recently came across this drawing by Thomas Rowlandson, un-dated but probably 1780-1800, ish.

It interests me as my forebears were watermen on the Medway around this time. But, can anyone suggest where the view is taken from? The original print suggest buildings on the right of the picture, perhaps the Gun and Anchor Wharves, so I wonder if we a re looking down stream from somewhere around where Sun Pier stands now ?
