News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

I spent much of my teenage money in Hummingbird & it's other incarnations!

Was the record shop further up the road called Bakers?

Neil, it wasn't me - don't think I called there when the shop was Hummingbird - I certainly did when it was called Plantation and no one would have said I was smartly dressed! Jimmy was a later upgrade!
Cheers

Yes Hummingbirds was created from Plantation records.  Plantation owned by Martyn Jackson (Laundi Ski Sports in Folkestone now), then David took it all on and created Hummingbird and his `oh so famous` car number plate, HBR26.

Hi JP - the Hummingbird I remember in the 80's was at the top of the old High St. in Folkestone owned by Brian & Penny.
I recognise Dave from Dover and the ladies - not sure about George the (hofmeister) bear though...?

Hi Roders,

Thanks for your post, this is really interesting!! I personally used to work at Hummingbird records in Dover when younger, you will see a picture of David Stoddart the owner of Hummingbird records earlier in this thread - you may recognise him!!!

Nice pics andyb. Do you remember when it was called Revolver in the days before C.Ds. I bought most of my records from there. There was also the record shop next to Victoria Hospital which also had guitars on the top floor. Was it called Scraces or something like that?

Now why would I have a photo of the owner Dave and his team in the late 80's at Humming Bird Records Dover?
