I was recently given this old photo of Briggs Pawnbrokers on Luton Road. My thanks to my old school friend Brian Joyce for this.

I used to call at the pawnbrokers in 1976 as it was on my patch. A lovely couple ran/worked? in there, Mr & Mrs Steel, who later moved into the new estate.
 The shops you mention were demolished in the late 70's as part of the ongoing redevelopment of that area which was completed in 1980.
