News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

Having changed many a barrel myself and cleaned the pipes down there in the late 70s and early 80s I never heard anything like that. The only sound of running water was in the suspended pipework from the gents toilets!

There's no stream under there but there are fairly large diameter foul and storm water drains running down Elm Avenue into Dale Street but you wouldn't hear them from the club.

My daughter worked at the Suburban Club in Chatham, on the corner of Wyles Rd. and Elms Avenue and often heard the sound of running water underneath the cellar when she was changing barrels. She was told that there was a stream that ran under the building. Does anyone have any information on this or could it just be part of the drainage system?
