Anyone have any ideas about this bricked-up doorway? It's about half way down Dock Road.

Chatham.  26th October, 1753

Honourable sirs,

The Dock Lane leading from the Hill House to the Yard Gate, is become very ruinous and almost impossible for carriages, in their intercourse between Chatham, and Brompton, and as the said Road belongs to his Majesty, and has heretofore been amended and kept in repair at the Crowns expense, we humbly desire you will be pleased to cause some repair, to be done to it immediately for the benefit of the inhabitants who must otherwise greatly suffer for want thereof, which will always be thankfully acknowledged by

Honourable Sirs,
Your obedient humble Servants
