News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

U.S. Coastguard Visit to Chatham Dockyard
« Reply #1 on: April 20, 2014, 08:48:49 »
Do any members have any memories or photos (or both) of a visit by ships of the United States Coastguard to HM Naval Base, Chatham? I remember going to this as a kid; there were a number of ships of the US Coastguard, including the Sail Training Ship USS Eagle. I can't remember exactly when it was, but I'm sure it was before the closure was announced, so it must have been in the very late 1970's, or maybe 1980.
