Sheps is becoming more common - we have a liquor store chain here in Australia named Dan Murphy's and I can buy Spitfire, Bishop's Finger and Shepherd's Crook!!

In my defence I must point out that there are areas of the World where Sheps is unknown. I really do try to fix this sad situation for the good of all beer drinkers but sadly many fail to recognise just what is missing from their sad lives. The major problem is that Newky Broon is available virtually everywhere, even on continental Europe (for me though it has to be Hoegarten when over there). So when I'm in a dark and sadly uneducated part of the UK (almost anywhere outside of the Home Counties) Newky Broon is the best substitute for my beloved Sheps......

First off, reply to Peterchall - no idea why the points varied from 1-5 - seems to be completely arbitrary

I will not even bother to rise to Sentinel S4's outrageous statement (but I do like the Newkey Brun)

No, you only got one stamp per visit, but you could visit as many time as you wanted.
I just wanted to visit as many as I could, It was mid-1979 and I was leaving for a three year contract in Papua New Guinea at the end of September. I wanted a T-shirt to take with me. The promotion didn't end until Dec 31st and prizes claimed after that date. Shep's were really good though and allowed me to get the shirt before I left - and, peterchall, I think the blurred/faded stamps gave me enough for the 100
Here is the other side of the passport - I tried loading both together with original post but upload kept failing. So went one at a time - got the first okay but the second seemed to have a fault. After more than 10 attempts and several resizings see my post in tech queries topic. This image is only 293kb but still will not go up!!!  :(

I’ve just realised from enlarging TonyYoung’s passport that points were exchanged for a gift – tankard (300 points), tie (100 points), T-shirt (100 points), Sweat-shirt (200 points). His 50 visits yielded 85+ points so a lot of booze needed downing to get a return!.

So were you awarded points at each pub according to how much you drank at that visit?

When I joined the RAF, National Service, and left Kent for the first time - I was amazed to find that S & N wasn't the main brewer in the UK.. The Geordie boys were  similarly unaware that their breweries weren't the only ones!! We were duty bound to experiment!!

There was a Fox and Hounds on the Herne Bay / Canterbury Road near the Wildwood Animal Park.  It was on the opposite side about 400 mtrs toward Herne Bay.  Now a private dwelling.

Very interesting :)

Why were some pubs worth more points than others, and were there any rewards for collecting many points?

Shepherd Neame Passport Promotion 1979

Back in 1979 Shepherd Neame had a ‘Passport’ promotion where each of their pubs had a rubber stamp worth points and if you presented your Shep’s Passport you received an imprint and collected points.

Here is my passport and the list of pubs that I managed to get to – 50 in all.

The list shows entry on passport, name of pub, town/village, points gained and whether the pub is still operating  as far as I know using google, etc. to find them.
My findings show of the 46 I could positively identify – some of the stamps have faded or are blurred – 7 have closed down, two I am not sure of (Sea View and Admirals Walk in Sheerness) and one burnt down (Bun Penny, Herne Bay – suspicious circumstances!)
One name I have identified – Fox and Hounds No48 – but can’t place the location.

Here’s the list:
