News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

Great pictures, Howard. First time I've seen them. Thanks for posting them. I imagine the walls in front were bult after the sound mirrors were in operation as they would have been in the way.

Attached are three photos from yesterday. Long range view of the mirrors, close up of one and one of the entrances to the shelter. Both the entrances are behind walls, to shield them from view and provide blast protection I imagine.

I went for a walk across the cliffs with my grandson yesterday. The two mirrors are now uncovered and the shelter cliff face entrances, which are on the right of each mirror, are clear.

Fantastic that they're excavating the tunnels as well. Funny how the memory plays tricks.  When I went down there, just before they were bricked up, there were two entrances, both facing the sea. Rotting wooden stairs with rails down the side of one. The brickwork on the excavation doesn't look at all familiar. Or have I got the wrong place?

This whole project has got me watching to be honest. I can't actually believe they're uncovering them let alone did I actually think they were intact just covered over!

I think that's terrific that the Sound Mirrors are being excavated. Too much of our history was vandalised in 'Eyesore Clearance' and should be restored to us and future generations. Thank you Lyn L for posting it.
