I've done some detective work now, and can confirm 1-4 Borstal Villas are indeed now 142-148 Borstal Road. The names painted on the gate-posts are, I think, a later addition. 142 and 144 are the older pair, built about 1870. Nos 3 and 4 came later. The artiss Donald Maxwell lived at Number 3 (now Number 146) between 1909 and 1930.

Revised location:
Goddings House is number 136 (The property management company address for the apartments it seems to have been been converted to)
Knole is number 154 (Google Street view 2008)
Palomar is number 156 (Google Street view 2008)

Allowing for Glyndon & Sunnyside to be 152 & 150, That would make Borstal Villas 148 - 142.

The 1911 Census was enumerated exactly the same as 1891 with the exception that Coachmans Cottage was called Borstal Villa Cottage.

The only doubts I have are that street view shows 144 has Holly Villa on the gate posts and 142 has  _____land? House.

Working back from Albion House with a 1895 OS map, I think that would make Borstal Villas the current 154 - 160 Borstal Rd, right on the junction with Priestfields.

Does anybody know where Borstal Villas were? In Borstal, obviously, but where exactly? There were two of them (Nos. 1 and 2), and they seem to have been somewhere between Manor Lane and Priestfields. Perhaps they've been renamed, though they had this name at least until 1897. For that matter, there was also a row of houses called The Strand in Borstal, but I can't locate those either. Can anyone help?
