Many thanks ! My god I cannot believe the damage, the whole street must have been rebuilt. I thought the houses there now were pre war ?

This is really interesting for me as I grew up a stones throw from here in Haig Avenue. I never realised there had been a V1 incident here. The houses must have been restored after the war? Has anyone got any pictures of the damage I wonder?

In 1911, with Edward and 4 children inc Violet Eleanor.
At 35 Beaconsfield Terrace, Beaconsfield Road, Chatham, Kent
Ada shows married 15 years(so 1896) with 4 children, all living. Edward is an Outfitters manager. Eldest daughter Bessie is a Dressmaker Apprentice.

Probate. Of 2 Grafton Ave. Admin to Edward Harry(sic) Spencer, tailors and outfitters manager. £274

Born 1879 Rochester.
Married Martha Jane Hughes 1903 Medway

In 1911, with Martha and a son. At 73 Wickham St, Delce Road, Rochester, Kent. Martha shows 2 children, one had died by 1911. Robert was a Grocers Assistant.
Believe Robert was a widower, his wife Martha J having died 1930, age 49

Check name Hamden. Records show Harnden—they do look the same!!

See gravestone  for Alfred, Joyce and later Ellen. Buried at Chatham Palmerston Rd Cemetery
  1911 Census. Alfred with mother Emley and 4 siblings. Att 11 Cage Lane, Chatham. Emley a Tailoress, 2 children were Laundry Hand and Errand Girl . Father Alfred a Stone Quarryman at Barton on Humber.
  Alfred & Ellen married ¼ March 1924, Medway.
  Joyce E Harnden born ¼ June 1924, Medway. Another daughter Ethel L born ¼ Sept 1929, Medway

  1911 census Kate and Edward A with 3 children, inc Ellen R(born 1903) and Edward Albert. At 99 Skinner St, Chatham. Husband Edward a General Labourer, Gov’t Dockyard.  Kate shows 5 children, of which 2 had died by 1911.

V1 Incident, Rochester, 8 November 1944.

13 houses demolished, 500 damaged. Casualties, 7 fatal, 44 injured.

Fatalities. All civilian. Buried at Rochester Municipal Borough Cemetery.

Kate Foreman. Age 69.
    Window of Edward Andrew Foreman.
Alfred Richard Harnden. Age 42.
    Husband of Ellen Rebcca Harnden.
Joyce Ellen Harnden. Age 20.
    Daughter of Alfred and Ellen Harnden.
    All above lived at 8 Grafton Avenue. Joyce Harnden died at St. Bartholomew's Hospital 10 November 1944.

Robert Joseph McKenzie. Age 65.
    Lived and died at 12 Grafton Avenue.

Nellie Robinson. Age 54.
    Wife of James A  Robinson. Lived and died at 6 Grafton Avenue.

Ada Jane Spencer. Age 69.
    Wife of Edward Henry Spencer.
Violet Eleanor Spencer. Age 42.
    Daughter of above. Both lived and died at 2 Grafton Avenue.
