News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

Hi Alastair!

Yes, that's the entrance to the Deep Shelter!

There's more about Fan Bay here: http://www.kenthistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=18641.0 (I hope I've done that right - still a Newbie! If not, the thread can be found under General/News/Fan Bay.)

Agree with Dinsy - they are brilliant photos, Trikeman - well done!
Am I right in thinking that the entrance to the tunnels is at two o-clock from the mirrors, or is that something else? If it is the tunnels they're far nearer the road than when I went down them.

I took these pics in Dec 2014 for the Kent Archaeological Soc magazine - they kindly let me have a look inside the tunnels before they opened to the public. I promised not to share the photos publicly until they had made all the press releases - I guess I'm safe now!
Excellent effort and a really interesting addition for visitors who have already been in the dover tunnels. Good to see the concrete sound mirrors unearthed after all these years
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast
