Photograph of the original Gillingham/New Brompton Salvation Army Hall (Barracks), Green Street, Gillingham.

"The New Brompton Corps (the popular name for the High Street area in the 1880’s) began in 1881 when the Chatham Corps Band marched into the district. "

"The Corps started life in an old washing factory in Gardiner Street (‘The Hallelujah Washing Factory”) but within two years a new hall was built on the site.  The present hall, now in Green Street, was opened in 1934."

(I believe that section of Green Street was originally part of Gardiner Street.)
