A 2006 LiDAR survey of The Blean revealed a possible Iron Age hill fort at Homestall Wood 1.5km north of the Iron Age hill fort at Bigbury Camp.
The Homestall enclosure is considerably larger, 35 hectares, than Bigbury Camp, 10.7 hectares. If it is indeed a Iron Age hill fort it would have formed part of a large defensive complex in the area.
It is probably this complex that was assaulted by Julius Caesar in his campaign of 54 BCE.
