F W Butler was a much-respected local Estate Agent and Auctioneer.  He is mentioned in the thread on the Real Dad's Army as Officer i/c Hythe Platoon, Kent Battalion.

In loving memory of Frederic William Butler, Major M.C., J,P., honourable Freeman and Alderman of Hythe.  Five times Mayor.  Baron Cinque Ports 1911-1941.  This desk is the gift of his wife and children July 1954.
