I was doing some family history research today and, forget my lot for a mo, a scan through the parish registers is so enlightening. In the burials section you sometimes find the circs of the death too. This one caught my attention (some words illegible). Spelling as verbatim.
1664 Feb 9 Richard Parkes, ploughboy at North Court, having drawn a bucket of water and taking hold thereof his feet slipping bring a hard fir---- ---- the bucket slipt out of his hands & then down the well & broken its implements whereof some come & struck him and broke out his braines some parts of them being found sticking upon ye cogs of the wheel. From sudden death good Lord deliver us.
