News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

Cptpies, my first thought was it was a wall with loop holes, a little bit like a wall in Faversham.  I did wonder why there is a concrete wall there too.  A chap at work who knows about these things said it was a mortar store.  I'll see what he says about it on Monday.

Colin I've never heard of a mortar store before. This looks like many other loopholed walls I know of. The extra concrete wall was to make it bullet proof and it's perfectly positioned to fire down New Road and would have been at a roadblock where the line of AT blocks that ran across the park ended. For my money it is what it looks like. What was the source of the mortar store information?

I came across this today. At first I thought it was a wall with two loop holes.  It turns out to be the remains of a mortar store. The blast  was wall gives it way I was told.  Does anyone know anything about this?
