Subtitled "The design and construction of the 74 gun ship Valiant" by Brian Lavery.
This book, by Britain's leading maritime historian, forms the basis of what was the Wooden Walls exhibition at Chatham Historic Dockyard. It goes into minute details of the process of the design and construction of HMS Valiant. HMS Valiant was a major step forward in the development of the British ship of the line, particularly the 74 gun, third rate ship of the line which formed the backbone of the Royal Navy's battlefleets from the mid 1750's until well into the 19th century. It details the materials used, the men who built her and the actual process of actually building her. I found it absolutely absorbing. A must for anyone interested in learning about the 'Golden Age' of the Royal Navy.
