News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

Sheppey Comprehensive opened in 1970. After much discussion from Parents, Teachers and the general public.
To start with .... a funny happening.  Just a short while after opening, Mr. Jimmy Hutley, the Head of the Sixth Form, happened to have his birthday which he had managed to keep secret from the school. Jim was standing on the stage with all of the 6th form standing in front of him when suddenly one of the group, who happened to be a paid birthday event girl, stepped out from a group of girls and started to serenade Jim, who pretended that no one was there .The girl then went down on her knees, grabbed Jim tightly round his leg and would not let go with Jim shaking his leg to get her off, still reading his notes for the day for the  6th form
She then led the Happy Birthday to you etc  and Jim actually smiled !!
