If you manage to get back to the pre 1800s. There were herds of Impetts around Elmsted, Waltham, Wye area of the Downs.

That is excellent Longpockets - thank you very much.

Everything fits the info I have so far and most important confirms George died in Maidstone as per my Grandmother's dying words.  No one else in family previously knew anything about that so I had doubts that I'd understood correctly.

I'm not very up on methods of tracing information.  How would I go about gaining further information about George Impetts death now I have a date etc?

George Impett born Ickham Kent

I'm trying to trace my great grandfather George Impett.  He was born in Ickham around 1900.  He married Elizabeth Jane Measday from Sandpits, Wickhambreaux.  They moved to Summerfield, a small hamlet next to Preston.  He was a market gardener.
I lose track of him after that.  My great grandmother moved to Canterbury with all of her children but no sign of George Impett. They lived in poverty in Nunnery Green.   There is a story in the family, that he was killed near Maidstone when a horse kicked him in the head.  When my grandmother Elsie Jane  (George's daughter) was dying she said out of the blue that she would love to visit her father's grave in Wateringbury.  My guess is that his market garden venture didn't work out and he had to go to Maidstone to find work.

A bit of a long shot but any advice or help would be appreciated.
