Parents Frederick & Harriett E.

In 1881, with parents & 9 siblings. Also G/mother and 6 Servants. At Dane House, Hartlip. Father was Deputy Lieutenant & Magistrate of County of Kent.
Father died 1890, mother Nov 1901

Gazetteer   [2830: 2814-3129] a village and magistracy in Natal Colony (Mahlabatini district; KwaZulu-Natal), 40 km north of Melmoth. Variants: Mahlabitini (incorrect spelling used by HMG); Mahlabathini (current siZulu spelling). On 28 April 1901, the magistracy was attacked by a commando which was repulsed by the four noncommissioned officers and 19 troopers of the Natal Police and 25 Zululand Police who formed the garrison; the garrison's losses were six killed or died of wounds and one severely wounded. HMG IV p.153 (map no.56); Wood p.43.

To the glory of God these priest stalls were erected in memory of Nigel Locke, Sergt. Natal Mounted Police.  Born January 2nd 1871 at Dane House in this Parish.  6th son of the late Frederick Locke Esq. D.L.J.P. who was killed in action after having successfully led his men to the relief of the residency at Maplabatini in Zululand on April 28th 1901.
