Clock Towers in Kent
« Reply #1 on: September 19, 2011, 14:07:41 »
Clock towers served an important purpose when they were built, during the nineteenth century people generally did not have any way to tell the time apart from when church towers rung their bells to mark the beginning of a service and the construction of clock towers, usually in the centre of towns, gave everyone the opportunity to keep track of time.  After a time clock towers were given faces to allow people to tell the time any time of day.  Today clock towers are constructed as aesthetic structures, often as part of a memorial.
