That's it confirmed - much appreciated Smiffy.

I can put that one to bed now.

Thanks Smiffy

I went past those cottages on Google as I couldn't identify the name Nightingale Cottages anywhere.  The postcode pointer went to the properties further along the lane but they look far too grand.

They are the only properties that look possible so I'm sure you are correct.  I've 'photoshopped' the new extensions out and aged the cottages to give an idea of what they might have looked like when my ancestors lived there.  They were possibly tied cottages to Roydon Hall.

Thanks again.

Actually I think they are still separate properties, just modernised and extended.

The cottages are clearly visible on Google maps:

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.2325705,0.3826576,3a,75y,106.35h,78.61t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s60Xt0fGMkuBuMPypZOxr_A!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en

It looks like the two original cottages may possibly have been knocked into one and then extended either side.

I have at last found the actual address one of my family lines lived at in 1906.

It is Nightingale Cottages, Martin Lane, Nettlestead TN12 5NB

I can't find any information or images for the cottages.  I can see the location on Google but it's a private lane.

Does any of you know of the cottages or have any information?

John

My Great Grandfather George Impett and his family were there 1906/1907.  The youngest child was born there as well.

George was gardener at the nearby Roydon Hall but died young in 1907.  The family subsequently lost their home and moved to a slum in Canterbury.
