The mention in the book 'Ramsgate Raid Records' by Chas. A.F. Austen published just after the war just says that "Mrs Thouless" was amongst the injured in a list of 15 names.

They were born about 1850 & 1853
No trace of a marriage
Was she just known as Mrs Thouless--would not be unusual
Cheers

Hi Alkham Hills

Thanks so much for this 'update' on Jonathan Hamlin's personal life. Keziah's age does match that of "Hamlin (female)" on the GRO Death Index. Really grateful.

Regarding Benjamin Thouless, I note you have him as single. Interestingly, in Austen's Ramsgate Raid Records it says one of those injured in the explosion was "Mrs Thouless". I wonder if he married late - after 1911 - or whether Mrs Thouless was his mother.

Many thanks for your help.

Ian

Happy to help Airship  :)
I've had such a lot of help myself from members on here. Familysearch.org is free to use and very helpful for all over the world.
Quite often on Census, the ages were rounded up and may have added or subtracted a few years and surnames often changed depending on what was heard by the enumerator.

Dear Lyn

My first post on this site and a bullseye!

Thanks so much for your reply. It does seem correct as Jonathan Hamlin was a fisherman and the age would be more or less right if he was shown as 27 in 1881. The only obvious discrepancy comes with Eliza's age as this shows her a little older than her husband but it seems she was actually a little younger. But everything else seems to fit - including the spelling of Hamlin with the GRO Death Index.

Once again, many thanks.

Ian

Hi

On 17th June 1917 Zeppelin L 42 bombed Ramsgate. One of the bombs landed in Albert Street where it demolished or severely damaged a number of houses. Three people died, Benjamin Thouless at No.45 and next door at No. 47, Jonathan Hamlin and his wife.

I have two questons which I hope someone on the Forum can help me with.

Firstly, what was the first name of Mrs Hamlin. In the reports I have seen she is just referred to as Mrs Hamlin, and on the GRO Index she is recorded as Hamlin (female) with no first name!

The second question is what is the correct spelling of Hamlin. Reports at the time appear to spell it Hamlyn or Hamblin or Hamblyn, but the GRO Death Index has it as Hamlin.

Many thanks for any help
