I went on the scenic railway as a kid after arriving at Dumpton Park and walking down Hereson Road. I don't remember the return journey as I was probably tired after a day at the seaside..

Were these tunnels used by the small railway which ran from Dumpton Park to Ramsgate seafront after the war? We always used this in preference to Ramsgate Station.

I was once a choirboy at Holy Trinity Church in Ramsgate and a tunnel entrance was opposite the church in Arklow Square. It was sealed up many years ago.

I have just read on another forum that workmen have been seen going in and out of these tunnels.  My curiosity got the better of me so i phoned the company that has been spotted. They have been contracted by the local council to remove any hazardous rubbish from the tunnels including any asbestos found (which so far there hasn't been).  They also told me that knives attached to wood have been found, and as there are only two people (maybe just 1?) with a key for access I wonder who it was?

And as far as they know there is no plans to open the system up, it is likely just to remove any dangers as the council know access is being gained and do not want to be sued if anything happens to anyone inside without authorisation.
