News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

Having now read this book on the Thanet Home Guard and also Ron Sitwell`s earlier `Defence of Thanet & East Kent` I really feel that I must commend the research that has gone into them. Absolutely fascinating and if you previously thought you already knew quite a bit about the subject you will learn more, I promise you. Highly recommended.

I hope it's Ok to advertise this here but I have recently finished a booklet on the Home Guard of Thanet i.e. KT(6) Battalion of Kent Home Guard. It  draws together extant information on the unit plus the results of more recent research plus interviews with veterans. It contains many photographs of the units involved.

Prices at £7.99, it is available from the Thanet Military publications website (or me directly)
thanks

Ian
