I am guessing Paulo that the location of the hat shop was where W.W.Martin now has it's yard.  They are an interesting firm who built much of victorian and Edwardian Ramsgate, including the church next door.

I found the following from the 1899 Ramsgate Register

Serene Place, Ramsgate.

1: William Edwards
2: Connelius Sietzema
3: John Edwards
4: Stephen Page
5: Mrs G Page
6: Thomas Barker
7: Miss Elizabeth Miller
8: Mrs Tagg

I assume Number 4 and 5 were not married!

Thanks to all.

All that remains of Serene Place are Nos. 62 & 64.  Note that some renumbering has occurred after the 1861 census.

Possibly, or as Montefore place is (if I recall correctly its name), on Hereson Road,  a large house, that had been arranged as flats or tenements.  Many large houses in Ramsgate are known as 'something' place.

According to the 1891  Census
The undermentioned houses are situate within the boundaries of

       Civil Parish of St Lawrence.
       Munincipal Borough of Ramsgate.
       Urban Sanitory District of Ramsgate.
Parliamentary Borough or Division of Isle of Thanet.
Ecclesiastical Parish or District of Holy Trinity.

1 to 8 Serene Place ,Hereson Road

Thank you grandarog. So I take it Serene Place was perhaps a row of houses in Hereson Road?

Thx

The only thing that confuses me is that Hereson Road is not in St. Lawrence.  I am convinced its Serene Place, however.  The 1898 street listing lists it as Hereson Rd.

I might have confused you DaveTheTrain.  I was looking at a couple, the lady came from St Lawrence and the chap from Hereson Road.  I think I have the right couple. Difficult this one as the man changes his name three times during his lifetime, and gets married without divorcing his wife wife!

Thx for your help.

Mike ,Definitely SERENE Place. if you go to previous page name is clearer for No 1 .
There were 8 dwellings at Serene Place.
There is also a George K Page at No 5 in 1891 & 1901.

Thx grandarog!

Would it be Serene Place, I know the writing is a little rough, but the "S" is similar.  There was a "Serene Place" in Ramsgate.
