Offices at 181 (103 in the 1920's) High Street, Beckenham, Kent. Works at 91a.

The company was founded in the 1920's by two brothers, James and Edward Batten, to produce specials, trial, and competition cars. James had a liking for unusual cars, his pride and joy being a Stanley Steamer. The firm started out by offering an alloy head conversion kit for Morris Cowley's and then started to build complete cars based on various chassis and engine combinations.

From 1935 the firm started to market highly modified 1932 Ford Model 18 V-8's. The frame was shortened to give a wheelbase of 8ft, the rear track was reduced and the suspension lowered. Rebored and modified used V-8 engines were used as they were "nicely seasoned". Most were two seaters. The first production car, a four seat, was sold to C J Hawkes for 375. Some ten Batten/Ford cars were sold and were successfully run in sporting trials and competitions.

The company was wound up in March 1940, with Jim Batten then becoming involved in development work for specialized military vehicles.

At least two Batten built cars survive, the best known being CKR 191 owned since the early 1970's by Neil Bennett. This car was Jim Batten's own lightweight racing special.
