News: “Over the graves of the Druids and under the wreck of Rome,
Rudely but surely they bedded the plinth of the days to come.
Behind the feet of the Legions and before the Norseman’s ire
Rudely but greatly begat they the framing of State and Shire
Rudely but deeply they laboured, and their labour stand till now.
If we trace on ancient headlands the twist of their eight-ox plough.”

Played Bar Billiards for the Billet in the 1980's. It was a nice friendly pub that looked after us bunch of n`er-do-wells proud. After a few matches we realised that our best hope was to go for the wooden spoon (last in the league). However I blew our wonderful run of 0 wins one fateful night in the Sandwich Arms. I only went and won my match. That handed the Wooden Spoon to a pub in Deal. None of the team would speak to me on the way home.........

Photos and a short history of this, now sadly closed, public house.

The story of the Czech landlord is a good one.
