Sandwich Bay

Interesting posts elsewhere on this forum about Sandwich Bay and the Guilford Hotel. Does anyone know about the story of Lord North and his sister walking along the beach at Sandwich Bay, near the hotel in 1940?

It seems the party of three moved barbed wire to one side to walk the dogs of the beach. Lord North & his sister were blown-up when they stood on a land mine. Lady North was saved whence was walking a short distance behind and missed the full blast.

It begs the question, didn't he know the beach was mined? It was a prime possible invasion site. Warning messages had been posted in the local newspapers three weeks before!
