X2RT - Ramsgate - N5121 - E0125 - 1935 - Industry - Flying started Jun. 30 1935 from site 1 mile W. of Broadstairs. -  Two hangars and a Control Tower/ Clubhouse/ Restaurant built in SW corner of airfield, which provided an E/W run of 2,250 ft.  Aerodrome extended in 1936 & Thanet AC formed in April.  Airport officially opened Jul 3rd 1937 operated by Ramsgate Airport Ltd.  Airport closed at start of war but reopened in 1940 as Manston scatter-field.  During major raid on Manston Aug 24th 1940 Ramsgate also attacked and the field cratered.  Airfield then obstructed  & closed for duration.  Reopened Jul. 27th 1953 and operated by various concerns until closure in 1968. - Now site for large industrial estate with housing on remaining ground.

X0WE - Westgate - N5123 - E0119 - 1914 - WW1 use only. - Set up by Admiralty, with Clacton, to provide floatplane cover for naval bases at Chatham & Sheerness.  Westgate seaplane station opened at St. Mildreds Bay on Aug. 1st 1914 and early users were Short S80 & S880 types.  Hangar & Slipway was built together with Wireless Station and in Dec. 1914  two seaplanes were permanently stationed here to provide defence against German floatplanes. In early 1915 land on the cliffs to the East of the seaplane base was requisitioned as an aerodrome and huts and hangars were erected to support the land planes.  In April 1915 2 Sqn. arrived from Eastchurch.  After accidents the site was considered to restricted for landplane ops. and the war-flight was moved to Manston in Jul. 1916.  Westgate aerodrome was abandoned. Ops ceased in late summer 1919 & Westgate seaplane stn. - closed on Feb 7th 1920.
