This is the scrap metal, turned back into bars to be fed into the machinery in the next shed (previous pics)

Steel Mill, Sheerness

This is a running steel mill so not really historic however, it is sited on the old defences of Sheerness and Wellmarsh, an old Garrison Ground.  The oldest building on site is an old military hospital but the site also has another listed building, an old locomotive shed!  I was very lucky to be able to have a guided tour of the site today and was disappointed to find the gun positions that EH have listed do not exist.  The cooling ponds are part of the old moat that surrounded Bluetown and the Dockyard.
