Was this switchback the same or similar to the one in Ramsgate ? It was erected about the same time but didn't last too long, can't remember the dates though. I really enjoyed seeing the photo's on the link though thanks detmold for adding it.
Half our life is spent trying to find something to do with the time we have rushed through life tryi

I've got a postcard from 1917 with an image of the Folkestone roller coaster. It looks long and not so bumpy as the aerial view.

I can email you a scan, DoverDan, if you like.

I see the difference now lol the scenic railway is far more extensive than Folkestones, looks like Thompson got a bit more adventurous by the time they got to margate lol. The last time i went there it was bembon bros certainly changed since then.

No, not really although the scenic railway was also developed by Thompson.

Have a look here:

Download the pdf 'How did the Scenic Railway become a listed building?' for lots of info about the Margate one.

'Thompsons Patent Gravity Switchback' to give its proper name, was constructed in 1888 and dismantled just after the end of the Great War.

Can anyone confirm this is a rollercoaster as ive seen lots of photo's of the lower leas but never seen this before. As far as i knew there where no rides that side of the pier. Any extra info or photo's on this would be great.
Dan
