News: The modern name of Kent is derived from the Brythonic word kantos meaning "rim" or "border", or possibly from a homonymous word kanto "horn, hook"

Sandwich being paved:

from Kentish Gazette 12 ? 15 August 1788, page 2:
The ancient town of Sandwich is also paving;  the irregularity of the streets and the ill-disposed situation of the houses will for ever prevent this being a pleasant place.    The streets are exceedingly narrow, consequently the pavements must be contracted and although art and ingenuity may be called in aid for the improvement of the town, yet nothing striking, nothing attractive, can be effected to excite the attention or approbation of strangers.
