A slipway that is still there, albeit in shape only - just a boxed in sterile, stainless steel surrounded, cut out shape in the river now. AFAIK it was only repairs - I hope someone proves me wrong with a fleet of boats.

Did they build new ships, or just repair? Was there a dry dock or slipway etc?

Yes Dousts shipyard. I may/or may not know the person who took down the old shipyard painted sign when it closed.. .. ... .. (says he innocently hiding the screwdriver) - its now on the wall in the Brook Pumping Station.  :)

There was a ship builders or repairers just on the Chatham side of the arch. I think the name was Doust - am I right?
